This is my first time having online test. While doing it, I was extremely very nervous since we are only given one hour to finish it even there are two attempts. My friend who already done it told me that she had to do the second attempt because the internet connection in her house is so bad thus made she failed. It made me become more afraid, till I encourage myself to start to do it. Since there are ten multiple choice questions and three essays, I started from multiple choice first with the easiest questions. After finish it, I continued with the essays. I really thankful since my essay’s questions am not as difficult as my friends :)

Microeconomics

Since in high school, economics has become my favourite subject. I was really excited every time got economics class.  Not like other subjects, even in bad condition I still attend the class with pleasure. I really like it since in my opinion; we can use our own understanding to follow the lesson. Economic lesson is only about a more detailed description of the economic activity which we often do in our daily life.

Microeconomics has already been learnt by me during high school. Actually, it really helps me to follow the lesson which is given in Taylor’s University. However, when I attended the first lecture, I was really shocked that what will I learn in here will be more specific than before. It means the microeconomics lesson which I have already got last time, is not enough to complete my study here.

Even attended tutorial class, I also did not understand with everything which is taught. It really haunts me every day. I keep thinking what will happen with my final exam later. I am really afraid that my answer which I gave during exam will not meet the requirements of the examiner. This fear has never been imagined before since it is my favourite subject. It also makes me think to give up to my study in Taylor’s University. :( 

After several weeks attending the tutorial class and meeting many friends, I can survive until now. When I don’t understand something, they will try to explain it to me in different ways which make me become easier to understand. On the other hand, besides the microeconomics which is more detail and specific, I get difficulty to follow the lesson because of the different language. Since I am from Indonesia, and always use Indonesian language then I need to work harder to understand what Ms.Marina and Mr.Baharom said. 

At the first time I am also afraid to ask something which I do not understand during tutorial class to Mr.Baharom. I do not know why, every time see him I feel so scared. Maybe since he is really firm during teach us. However, since I met him during article assignment, I knew that he is really friendly person. He is very kind to his students and also gave advice which is really helpful. And then, during tutorial he has also never been angry to us when we cannot answer the question which is given.

Knowing that so many students who are fail last semester also makes me so worry to myself. Every time I do not understand, I kept thinking how if I become part of them. I am really afraid just by imagining it. I do not want make my parents sad because of me. That’s why now I am starting to work harder than before. I promise to do a recap every time before attending the tutorial class. Even I still cannot do it now because of lazy, but I will keep trying. :)

Academic integrity is based on a think that students in any learning institution will follow the honest methods of learning and doing assessment even they are faced with stressful situations. The way to achieve educational integrity is by learning how to reference correctly. Referencing gives so many benefits both the writer and the reader. It is able to gain our writing skill and helps those people who read easy to understand. Referencing is very helpful for the reader since it shows the extent of our research, strengthening our argument, our source of argument is shown to the reader, and the reader is allowed to consult and verify our sources independently.

Using someone else’s ideas or working without referencing and submit it as our own work is called as plagiarism. Then, if we want to use it in our assignment, referencing or citing is a must. By learning the Harvard system of referencing to avoid plagiarism, I have learned how to do a paraphrase, summarise, quote and copy. Paraphrase is changing someone else’s words in our own. It makes me become more creative to expand a sentence in different way but still has the same meaning. Summarise is using someone else’s idea in our own words but we reduce it which makes it become more simple and easier to understand. Quote is copy the same sentence as the original then makes it in a quote; however this method can’t be used so many times. Thus copy only can be used in reproduce a diagram, graph or table.

After learning the Harvard system, the way I wrote my first assignment was really different. Copying the same sentence from an article or something else is avoided. Creating my own sentence become more often to be done even it has the same meaning. I also use quotations when I can’t find the way to change it in different sentence. Harvard system also requires referencing list in the end of assignment. That’s why, in the end of my first assignment, there is reference list which include the author, date of the article is made, date of the article is viewed, title, name of publisher, place of publication, page number and the link of the online source.

In my personal preference, it is very important to adhere to the rule of academic integrity since we have to be more cherish to other people’s work. We can’t just take their work which is definitely hard to do and tell it as our hard work. And it also can teach us to be more responsible to everything we do.

Academic integrity really gives so many impacts in my first assignment. I become more confidence and understand with my own work. Surely in my next assignment not only for English but also another subject, I can apply this to make my assignments better. Besides help me to do my assignments, Academic Integrity also gives benefit in my future working life, such as my research paper during semester 5 and also when I work in the future. It will show my own hard work thus I can be proud of myself when produce satisfactory results.

I have learned accounting before, during my high school. In first five lectures, I am able to follow the lesson easily since only repeat the previous things. However, in the next lecture I had a little trouble to follow, because of I don’t really familiar with the lesson and the tutor teaches us fast enough during tutorial class. In accounting we have to make many kinds of journal such as general journal, adjustment, trial balance. Accounting is actually quite easy, only needs a high accuracy in entering numbers and counting. It is very useful in life because can help us to know the amount of money that we use and receive in our daily life in detail.

What have you learnt from first three lectures?

First lecture is about mathematics of finance. It teaches us to calculate the interest on a loan that has been done and also to know the amount of interest which is earned on savings. The methods are simple interest and compound interest. Compared with simple interest, compound interest has a much faster growth of money in result, since the amount of the interest plus into the loan then the result will be added to the increased principal and calculated again with the interest.

Second lecture tells about future value annuity, by understanding the formula which has been given, the amount of money which is received at the end of period after adding interest can be determined before. The other one is present value annuity. This lesson gives more advantage for us since it teaches the way to find out how much money should we spend at the first time to get the amount that we hope at the end after adding interest.

Besides that, lecture three gives something different than lecture one and two. When both of them are related to money which have already been added with interest, in lecture three is about goods. The topic is about linear programming. Here, we can know the quantity of goods which are produced to reach the highest possible profit (maximum) or the lowest profit (minimum). Other than, we can also find a comparison between the numbers of items to each other that can be generated during the capital owned or the amount of it is limited.

What have you learnt from Mini Research Project?

In this Mini Research Project, I got many lessons either the subject or not the subject. Since final exam only in a couple weeks more, this Mini Research Project helps me to do my revision earlier. It means I do not need to rush to study during study week later. Even we only need four topics in our research; however, to decide which one we will use, it has to be by understanding each chapter.

On the other and, this Mini Research Project also improves my skill in using Excel. Some chapters need to show the Excel work which is not easy to do. We have to get really know about Excel then can apply every step which has already given to get the right answer, same as we do it manually. This is certainly not an easy thing, because even we have already followed the direction, sometimes the answer which is appear will be a bit weird. Then it will need more times to check it again manually and or ask others to help if got stuck. 

Besides that, my writing skill is also gaining because of this Mini Research Project. Last time, I do not know how to show those formulas or symbols in Microsoft Word, and we also do not that in there got so many things can be made and used to make our work becomes easier and looks nice. 

This is really helps me later in the future. Even through some troubles, but I will never be regret of doing this research which give me so many things to learn. I believe it will be so useful later when I get a job which need this method to make my job easier. :)
